Loacker expands its East Tyrol manufacturing location

On 25th of June 2016 in the presence of numerous guests of honour, the new production hall in Heinfels was officially opened. The investment volume is about 70 million Euros. This means that the family business from South Tyrol, which is also active in East Tyrol, has invested a total of more than 160 million Euros in this location.
The new hall was built over a period of 30 months and includes an L-shaped production building with three floors, covering a floor space of 16,000 square meters and a total floor area of 36,000 square meters. This state-of-the-art building is equipped with low-consumption LED lighting and a heat recovery system, and adheres to particularly resource-saving construction standards. The surrounding green areas are cultivated with plants and trees from the region, according to an accompanying ecological scheme.
Production started in April. The Quadratini and Gardena Loacker products are currently made using two ovens in single-shift operation. The plan is to expand to triple-shift operation by September. Next year, two additional ovens will be commissioned. The new hall’s yearly production of 6,000 tonnes can then be almost doubled.  At the same time, heavy investment will be made in new lines in the old production building in 2017. In total, investments of more than 25 million Euros are planned for 2017.

2015: 313.71 million Euros turnover
Most recently, Loacker produced a total of more than 35,000 tonnes of wafer and chocolate specialities at the two locations in Unterinn (Auna di Sotto, South Tyrol) and Heinfels. This represents about 850 million units which are being exported to over 100 countries on five continents. The Loacker Group currently employs more than 822 staff. In 2015, a turnover of 313.71 million Euros was generated (2014: 275.8 million Euros). At the Heinfels location, too, the turnover was significantly increased to 64.20 million Euros (2014: 53.15 million Euros).
The company is owned by the Loacker-Zuenelli Family and is currently being managed by its third generation. The family business was founded 90 years ago as a small confectionery in Bolzano old town by Alfons Loacker.  Today, Loacker is a global player. In addition to the primary sales market of Italy, exports to the Middle East (Saudi Arabia, United Arabic Emirates and Israel) in particular, as well as to the area of South Korea to Australia are constantly increasing. The export ratio is 73 per cent.
